With 30 years service in Lothian and Borders Police I encountered a wide range of crime issues and trends and oversaw a variety of initiatives and operations to address crime problems, criminal activity and engage with community groups to deter crime and antisocial  behaviour.

Latterly as Community Inspector for three semi rural Police Stations in Midlothian and a large farming area I formulated initiatives and action to impact on the rising rural crime problems including thefts of fuel and heating oils, machinery, metal, livestock and general vandalism.

Having been seconded to Midlothian Council for three years previously I developed joint working with Local Authority Departments, Elected Members, Community Groups and other agencies.

In that role I devised multi-agency responses to problems within those communities from criminals, those engaged in antisocial behaviour, youth disorder and issues that affected Community Harmony. Most of these measures remain in place.

As a Scottish representative on the Association of Chief Police Officers National Rural Crime Conference I gained a significant knowledge of the scale or rural crime problems in England and Wales and emerging national trends.

Understanding the problem doesn't make you an engineer and some years ago I set about acquiring the skills to understand how security systems work and indeed are overcome then teamed up with trusted and skilled friends in the industry to be able to provide expert response to specific Security needs rather than some companies who attempt to provide services across multiple skills.
